Orange because of Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
I’ve long wanted to do something to raise money and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy, but it was only recently that certain things fell into place and I decided to take action!
It all started when I found out about the Town and Gown 10k Race which I though would provide me with a good bit of motivation for improving my fitness but also – and more importantly – it would be my way of making a small contribution to the Campaign as it is a charity very close to my heart.
In September of this year (2013) it will be the 20th anniversary of my brother Chris’ death. He was 24 and he had Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy.
He was my best friend and always stood up for me when I was being a less-than-perfect little brother. He enjoyed reading and loved the radio which was flourishing at the time in Greece and he absolutely adored Panathinaikos! The enjoyment he got out of Panathinaikos’ success at the time was the only consolation to an Olympiacos supporter like myself (arch-rivals of Panathinaikos)!
Looking back when we were little kids I remember many happy times rolling around in the dirt, to our mother’s dismay, playing with our Lego and our Matchbox cars. We would spend long summers in the south of Peloponnesos splashing around at the beach, trying hard to play as quietly as possible whilst the grown ups had their siestas (but invariably we would end up napping too!) and generally pottering around enjoying the sun, the sea and the loud tzitziki noise!
He was truly a remarkable person and the best big brother I could’ve wished for.
I have set up a JustGiving page where I will be adding all the events that I’ll be doing in his memory for Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and I’ll be keeping this website updated as well.
